Three Benefits of a Loft Conversion

Loft conversion

Of the many challenges that comes with growing into a family home, managing space can be one of the hardest. No matter what we do, we always seem to need more of it. As the family starts to grow and time moves on, space will only become more diminished.

Do you take the plunge and sell up to move to another property with more room, or pay for an extension? One popular option is to convert your loft. Here we detail some benefits of going with this option.

Flexibility

One of the most alluring benefits of having your loft converted is the flexibility this space affords you. Many people simply want a spare bedroom for guests, but there is so much more that can be achieved with a loft conversion. You could create a gym space, or a secondary living room, for example. One of the most striking ways you can utilise this extra space is with a mezzanine level with a balcony overlooking the floor below.

Add Value to Your Property

Loft conversions also have a financial benefit to consider. It’s estimated that a loft conversion can increase the value of your property by a whopping 20%! For an average home that can amount to between £30,000 and £40,000. Also, if you’ve decided to create a spare bedroom in your loft, this space could be a revenue generator before you sell by renting it out to a lodger or becoming an Air BnB host.

Loft conversions can cost from £20,000 - £60,000, so if you’re on the lower end of that cost spectrum you’ll already be in the black when it comes time to sell, but if you’ve gone for something more expensive then you can reclaim at least some of that investment by renting. In comparison to other types of extensions, loft conversions give you much more bang for your buck.

Add Storage Space

One of the most challenging things about living in a family home is figuring out where to put all of that ‘stuff’ you’ve acquired over the years.

There’s only so many cubby holes in an average property and a well planned and executed loft conversion can give you extra storage space as well as an extra room. You could create a second under stairs cupboard, add new shelving units or keep all the kid's toys away from the living room floor by installing a whole new area just for them.
